TRS Reports Loss For FY22, But Says It Performed Better Than Most Public Pension Funds

The Illinois Teachers Retirement System is reporting a loss for the fiscal year that ended in June… but says that’s actually good news, given the amount of market volatility seen around the world over the past year.

TRS says the FY22 losses amounted to just over one-percent net, which it says is a favorable rate of return compared to other public pension systems around the country over the same period. The pension fund notes that long-term performance is a better measure of overall strength, and says TRS has a 40-year rate of return that exceeds nine-percent.

It says the moderate loss in the last fiscal year will not harm the fund’s ability to pay out all benefits.
