Springfield public school students may be attending classes remotely instead of enjoying a snow day off… under a new e-learning plan adopted Tuesday night by the school board.

After bad winter weather this past school year forced District 186 to add additional days at the end of the year… pushing classes into the second week of June… the district moved to develop a plan that allows the option of giving students a mix of live online classes and individual lessons on bad weather days.

Teachers would be available by Zoom for at least two hours each day and provide online instruction equal to a total of five hours. The plan does allow for traditional snow days if severe weather causes power outages or otherwise makes it difficult for students to get online.
