The the survey from Nation’s Restaurant News named a restaurant known for huge portions and a bazillion different types of cheesecake #1. But here’s who I think they overlooked.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE local restaurants. I love supporting local businesses and places like Casa Real, Driftwood, and (before they closed..sniff, sniff) Three Tomassos are go to places for me for date nights or fun nights out with friends.
However, chain restaurants have their appeal too. Some have amazing menu selections but some times, especially when I am traveling, or just on a day trip to St Louis, a chain restaurant shows up like a friendly face when I don’t know where else to go.
So according the Annual Consumer Picks survey from Nation’s Restaurant News, these are the top 5 picks from the 4,805 people who responded to the survey:
1. Cheesecake Factory.
2. The Melting Pot.
3. Bonefish Grill.
4. Red Lobster.
5. Romano’s Macaroni Grill.
Not a bad start – I really like three of them (though Melting Pot is INSANELY expensive!!)
However, here are some that have been overlooked in my opinion…
1. Red Robin (YUM!!…come on you have to say that!) Great burgers, endless fries, and awesome milkshakes…what’s not to love??!!
2. Abuelos. Sadly, we don’t have one of these here. In fact the closest one I have found is up near Chicago but I LOVE their Mexican cuisine. There salsa section is incredible and, for a chain Mexican restaurant, their menu has great variety.
3. Ruby Tuesday. I was so bummed when the one in White Oaks Mall closed 🙁 When I was pregnant with my daughter, food and I had a love hate relationship. I loved eating…food hated me. The salad bar at Ruby Tuesdays was one of the few places I could eat to my hearts content and not pay for it later (figuratively speaking.) Also…again great burgers and some pretty tasty appetizers too!
4. McCormick and Schmick’s. If you love seafood- this is the place to go. Don’t get me wrong- I love me some Red Lobster, but M&S is a step or two above them in the types of entrees offered and their desserts are to die for! However, on the downside… you pay for that too…out the…well you know.
OK…so now I am really hungry…for pretty much everything on this list. So, while I stuff my face, what did I leave off?
