After spending decades living on public broadcasting stations across the country, Sesame Street debuted its 46th season this past weekend in new digs & a different location, Home Box Office.
Kicking off the season with two brand new episodes – Sesame Street not only introduced viewers to a new location but new characters & an updated opening theme.
Elmo has moved into the iconic 123 Sesame Street brownstone, Cookie Monster resides above Hooper’s Store, Bird Bird’s nest has been upgraded to a tree & Oscar The Grouch pops up in random recycling bins as well as showing up his ol’ trash can.
We also meet a new cast member named Nina – a bilingual, Hispanic young woman. Nina works at the neighborhood laundromat as well as the bike store & helps the gang solve problems – like how to calm down before bed.
Episodes will also be shorter, clocking in at only 30 minutes – as kids attention spans become shorter & shorter. Following Saturday’s two-episode premiere, new episodes will air at 9:00AM with a repeat playing at 9:30AM – starting on January 23.
