Festivus is a completely made up holiday but that didn’t stop Illinois from approving a Florida man’s request to place a Festivus pole inside the Illinois State Capitol.
And this isn’t just any Festivus Pole. This one is six-feet tall, pays tribute to gay pride, and is topped with a disco ball.
Chaz Stevens, a self-described atheist, says his goal is to use the First Amendment to get a pole in any public place which also displays a nativity scene. Not surprising, his endeavor has been met with some resistance and more than a few death threats as well.
The pole will go on display December 21st.
