The American Cancer Society has released new breast cancer screening recommendations for women.
The move reflects changing attitudes about cancer screening with the American Cancer Society is itself recommending fewer mammograms.
The organization has released guidelines saying that average women should now begin annual mammograms at 45 years old. The society said it reached this conclusion after weighing the benefits and risks of mammograms for younger women.
By age 55, women can transition to being screened every other year since breast cancers tend to grow more slowly after menopause.
