A recent study from the US Tax Foundation shows how the cost of living in all 50 states affects how much or how little $100 will get you.
California and New York are among the worst states for the value of a dollar, with $100 in each state being worth just $89.05 and $86.73, respectively.
In high-priced Washington, D.C., $100 is worth only $84.96. Cash goes much further in the South and Midwest. People can stretch $100 the farthest in Mississippi, getting $115.21 of value from it. In South Dakota, $100 is worth $114.16.
Illinois comes in below $100 – but not by much – worth only $99.01.
