A visibly bandaged-up Jimmy Fallon returned to The Tonight Show Monday night and described in detail – the injury that put him in the ICU for 10 days and almost left him without a finger.
The accident took place on June 26 – when Fallon tripped on a braided rug in his kitchen. Trying to catch himself, Fallon’s wedding ring caught on the counter – which he believed had broken his ring finger.
He was told by hospital staff that his finger was not broken but had suffered ‘ring avulsion’.
The late night host ended up at New York’s Bellevue Hospital Center – where a doctor dressed in a bow-tie and cowboy boots performed microscopic surgery for six hours.
Ring avulsion cases don’t typically end well, Fallon told his studio audience – they usually end with the finger needing to be amputated. Doctors took a vein from Fallon’s foot and placed it in his finger.
He thanked his doctors and hospital staff over & over. He also mentioned that he will not have any feeling in the finger for another 8 weeks.
Welcome back Jimmy!
