One-fifth of young adults are watching streaming services like Netflix & Hulu Plus and aren’t even paying for it.
A report conducted by Parks Associates concluded that 6% of US households are using somebody else’s account to watch streaming on-demand type services – including HBO Go, Netflix, Amazon Prime & Hulu Plus.
The report goes onto say that programming pilfering will end up costing the industry over $500 million this year alone.
According to researchers, “Credential sharing has a measurable impact on video services. The impact on Over-The-Top video revenues is especially troublesome as OTT providers are investing large sums of money to boost their original content offerings.
