Jurassic World has become the biggest film to hit theaters and it’s still in its opening weekend!
The follow-up to the Jurassic Park franchise absolutely crushed estimates by Hollywood insiders – bringing in a record $511.8 million globally – marking the first time a movie has broken the half-billion dollar mark its opening weekend.
Jurassic World brought $207.4 million here in the United States – that comes in second to The Avengers back in 2012. Jurassic World brought in $307.2 million overseas, including $100.8 million in China alone.
The film picks up 20 years after the original Jurassic Park and stars Chris Pratt – who gained in his fame from Marvel’s Guardian Of The Galaxy.
Erik Davis from Fandango says the film includes several throwbacks to the 1993 original but can be enjoyed without having seen it or the sequels. He also mentions that young children might be a little frightened by the realistic-looking dinosaurs, but the whole family is to enjoy Jurassic Word – which was executive produced by original director Steven Spielberg.
