All Day Spotting the American Bald Eagle   If you have never seen a wild bald eagle, you are in for a treat. The Macon County Conservation District invites you to join naturalist Jeff Tish for an Eagle Viewing Trip on Saturday, February 1, from 7am to 5pm. The eagle has been making a tremendous comeback and early February provides an excellent time of year to spot them preying on their food over open waters. On this charter bus day trip to Pere Marquette State Park, participates will view bald eagles along the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. Then, enjoy lunch at the lodge and tour the Melvin Price Lock and Dam. Reservations required by January 24. A fee of $75/person includes all transportation, tours, and lunch. Call 217-423-7708 or visit www.maconcountyconservation.org for registration and details.

8:30AM 5:00PM Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art   Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art brings together historical and contemporary body-based art by over fifty artists from the Illinois State Museum collection. The exhibition emphasizes the power and the range of the narrative and expressive uses of the figure in Midwest art. The artworks were selected to create a better understanding and consideration of different representational styles and the ability of the figure to carry feeling, memory, and experience. They were also selected with an eye toward something fantastic—a heightened sense of the super-real or super-natural—whether through aggressive, expressive form, high-keyed color, inventive graphics, or ambiguous situations. The Museum is open from 8:30-5:00 Monday through Saturday and from 12:00-5:00 on Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is available nearby and the building is ADA accessible. For more information contact Jim Zimmer at 217-782-7440.

8:00AM n/a Hedwig and the Angry Inch   Roxy Theatricals presents Hedwig and the Angry Inch Jan. 17-18, 23-25, 30-31 and Feb. 1 at The Legacy Theatre 101 E. Lawrence, Springfield, IL 62701. Only 75 seats per performance. There may only be a limited number of seats or standing-room tickets available at the door beginning at 7 p.m. A critically acclaimed off-Broadway rock musical which tells the story of the "internationally ignored song stylist," Hedwig, a gender-bending young East German lad who undergoes a botched sex change operation in a bid to emigrate to America. In her latest appearance in a string of underground nightclubs, Hedwig takes to the stage with her band, "The Angry Inch," to tell her story of love, loss and identity. Both heartfelt and inherently comedic, Hedwig never fails to be thought-provoking. Hedwig manages to pay tribute to a small pantheon of rockers, from David Bowie to Lou Reed to Iggy Pop. Advance tickets are $18. Tickets day of show are $25 general admission and limited.

8:00PM n/a The Odd Couple   The Hoogland Center for the Arts is proud to present The Odd Couple Jan. 24-26 and 31-February 2. Pre-show dinner at 6:30 p.m. catered by Arena Food Service! Dinner is $15 per person and reservations can be made online when purchasing a show ticket or by phone (523-2787). Reservations must be made by Jan. 21 at 5.p.m. The Story Felix Ungar, a neurotic, neat freak newswriter (a photographer in the television series), is thrown out by his wife, and moves in with his friend Oscar Madison, a messy sportswriter. Despite Oscar's problems – careless spending, excessive gambling, a poorly kept house filled with spoiled food – he seems to enjoy life. Felix, however, seems utterly incapable of enjoying anything and only finds purpose in pointing out his own and other people's mistakes and foibles. Even when he tries to do so in a gentle and constructive way, his corrections and suggestions prove extremely annoying to those around him. Oscar, his closest friend, feels compelled to throw him out after only a brief time together, though he quickly realizes that Felix has had a positive effect on him.
