  All Day Holiday Book Drive   The 4th annual Holiday Book Drive will take place during the month of November. New books for children (ages birth to age 12) are being collected and will be distributed at Christmas time to needy children in the area, You can help by dropping off new books at one of the following sites: Chatham Area Public Library, Chatham Presbyterian Church, Rochester High School, Rochester Elementary (2-3 building), Williamsville Library, Williamsville Methodist Church, Sherman Elementary, Trinity Lutheran Preschool Auburn, State Journal Register, Safe School Program (Capital Career Center), or Bridge Club of Springfield. Checks may be made out to Holiday Book Drive and sent to Bank & Trust P.O. Box 228 Chatham, IL 62629. Every dollar donated will go directly to the purchase of new books.

  8:30AM 5:00PM Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art   Figurism: Narrative and Fantastic Figurative Art brings together historical and contemporary body-based art by over fifty artists from the Illinois State Museum collection. The exhibition emphasizes the power and the range of the narrative and expressive uses of the figure in Midwest art. The artworks were selected to create a better understanding and consideration of different representational styles and the ability of the figure to carry feeling, memory, and experience. They were also selected with an eye toward something fantastic—a heightened sense of the super-real or super-natural—whether through aggressive, expressive form, high-keyed color, inventive graphics, or ambiguous situations. The Museum is open from 8:30-5:00 Monday through Saturday and from 12:00-5:00 on Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is available nearby and the building is ADA accessible.   11:30AM 1:30PM Lunch and Learn Series   The University of Illinois Springfield Alumni SAGE Society and Illinois State Historical Society presents “War, Medicine and Remembrance” as part of its annual Lunch and Learn Series.The year 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the World War I. Monarchies fell; the “old world” order was greatly damaged; Communism rose; and 37 million soldiers and civilians were killed, wounded or died. Chris McDonald, Lincoln Land Community College professor of social sciences, will discuss Sangamon County’s involvement in WWI, specifically on members of the ambulance corps. Adriana Schroeder, writer and command historian for the Illinois National Guard, will speak on “Prairie Soldiers Passed: The Illinois State Military Museum.” The cost for the hot buffet lunch and program is $20/per person. Reservations are requested, as seating is limited. Seating is available in the back for those who do not purchase the luncheon buffet. The final Lunch and Learn event of the season on “Quilts, Canvas and Women Artists” will take place on Dec. 5. Visit www.uiaa.org/uis to register online.
