  All Day May is American Stroke Month!   During the month of May, the American Stroke Association works hard to spread awareness of the signs of a stroke. You can share the following information with your audience to help them to spot the signs of a stroke, using FAST: F- Face Drooping...A- Arm Weakness....S- Speech Difficulty.....   All Day 6th Annual Curb Your Car event   The Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission and Springfield Bicycle Advisory Council are once again encouraging people in Sangamon County to bike, walk, run or take the bus during their commute to work from May 13-18 and take part in the 6th Annual Curb Your Car event. Participants are encouraged to form teams with their co-workers and compete in a team based challenge. Commuters are also invited to take part in a group bicycle ride beginning at Washington Park and ending at the Old Capitol Farmer's Market on the morning of Wednesday, May 15.   All Day Pana Days Chautauqua   The 2013 Pana Days Chautauqua will be held Thursday, May 16 through Saturday, May 18 in Pana’s Historic Kitchell Park. H & H Amusements will again set up their carnival and arm band specials will run from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Regular ticket sales will run Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.. Thursday evening stage entertainment will feature Low Tide Rising, a light rock group from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday Night stage entertainment is Open Mic Night coordinated by Dave & Tracy Kennedy beginning at 7 p.m. Come out and join the fun and serenade your friends. Saturday will kick off with the Pana Masonic Lodge sausage & gravy breakfast held from 6 to 10:30 a.m. at the Lodge on Locust Street. The Pana Arts Council will host an art show at the Lodge from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Set up for the annual Chili Cookoff begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Chautauqua Pavilion in Kitchell Park. The Baby Chili Pepper Contest will begin immediately after Mayor Sipes welcomes all to Pana at 9 a.m. The Little Miss Contest will begin at 10 a.m. and the Little Mister Chili Pepper contest will begin at 11 a.m. The First National Bank of Pana will host the Kiddie Tractor Pull with sign up beginning at 11 a.m. and the Pull beginning at noon. Peoples Bank & trust will host free Pony Rides for the kids from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Lions club will have their butterfly pork chop sandwiches available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. At 1 p.m. Jerry Koons will be hosting the first annual bean bag toss tournament for all ages, admission per team is $10.00 for information on the tournament contact Jerry at 217-416-2503 or jandjkoons@yahoo.com. Stage entertainment for Saturday includes Tim Crosby from noon to 1 p.m. followed by Steve Clark, blue grass musician from 1-3 p.m, at 3 p.m. Joe Wheat takes the stage with country music until 4 p.m. when Thrashin Grass will have you tapping your toes to their variety of bluegrass and gospel, Larry Warren plays from 5-6 p.m. and Jamie & Karlie Nattier will appear from 7- 8 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs out to enjoy a weekend full of great music! Food and Craft vendors along with various display booths will be open for you to browse and shop while you spend the weekend with us. Sunday Pana First Baptist Church will hold a Chautauqua Sunday Community Church Service at 10 a.m.

  8:00AM 4:30PM Sangamon County Schools Art Exhibit   Eighty-four pieces of selected artwork created by Sangamon County elementary, middle and high school students are being exhibited. The display represents the work of students from 32 schools in Sangamon County, selected by area art teachers.   5:00PM 7:00PM Used Book Sale   The Eda Nelsch Chapter of the National Honor Society at Springfield High School is hosting a used book sale from 5-7 pm on Friday, May 17, 2013 in the Springfield High School Commons (101 S. Lewis). Proceeds from this sale will be used to benefit the English Department. A variety of titles will be available at this sale. The public is welcome. Pricing & Ticket Info: Admission is free. Hardcover books will be priced at $2.00 each, trade-back books at $1 each, and paperback books at $0.50 apiece.
